Christkindlmarket

Every Christmas season a little piece of heaven called Christkindlmarket takes over Chicago’s Daley Plaza.  For a holiday lover like myself, Christkindlmarket is without a doubt one of the happiest places on earth.  The Chicago Christmas Market is a scaled down stateside version of those found in Vienna, Germany, and all over Europe, but I’m certain it’s equally magical.

Rows of little buildings sell everything from authentic German food and mulled wines to handcrafted wooden toys and clocks.  As you walk through the market in the middle of the city you feel transported to Europe.

After trying the crepes when I visited Christkindlmarket with Kaitlyn last year, getting my hands on a piping hot butter and cinnamon crepe was at the top of my list.

Of course we had to at least try to take the kids to see Santa, but it turns out cheery old St. Nick was a little bit too horrifying when seen through their tiny eyes.  No luck this year, but I’m sure the old chap understands and their Christmas wishes will still come true.

After spending a bit of time at the Christkindlmarket we made our way back to the Fairmont so we could be back in time to take advantage of the deserts waiting for us in the Gold Lounge.

Ooh la la.  If only I hadn’t eaten so much at the market! At least I could still drink in the gorgeous view while the others sampled the deserts.
